Description

Preparing Students for Complex Texts supports teachers in making meaning of texts so that they are able to support students to do the same. This session focuses on concrete steps for how to analyze a text for complexity to promote comprehension. Through this process, teachers learn how to determine the extent to which the text and task will be challenging to students based on their specific needs and how to plan scaffolds or enrichments accordingly to ensure all students can access and deeply comprehend complex texts.

2 hour workshop, offered online or in-person. For in-person, you must book a total of at least 3 workshops for a full day of PD.

Use a vetted text complexity rubric to identify how challenging a text is across multiple text feature

Anticipate where students may need support accessing a text and plan scaffolds accordingly
