Overview

In Georgia, Relay offers Master of Arts in Teaching programs, a non-degree certification-only program, and an Advanced Certificate in Special Education. Students who pursue certification will do so through an online Colorado-based educator preparation program. After completing qualifying clinical experiences in Georgia and all program, testing, and licensure requirements, they are eligible to apply for a Georgia teaching certificate as an out-of-state program completer.

CERTIFICATION ENDORSEMENT AREAS

Students in this program may elect to pursue their teacher certification in one of the following areas through the Colorado Traditional Teacher Licensure Program. Upon verification of program completion, eligible students may apply for Georgia teacher certification in a comparable teaching field as out of state program completers, with support from Relay through all stages of this process. Certification must correspond with the content of their degree program. Students in the MAT in Special Education program may choose to pursue any of the general ed endorsements listed below.

The Relay Approach

Since Relay Atlanta opened its doors in 2018, we have made it a priority to go above and beyond when advising our educators. For example, we provide additional office hours, observations, and certification support. We also work with local partners to attract, retain, teach, and sustain male educators of color. To that end we have developed affinity groups as well as a database of resources to ensure the success and continued growth of this group of needed educators. Elementary Education is the most popular content area at Relay Atlanta (Every year over half of our entering class has this as a major). while Special Education is a growing field of study. The values of excellence, well-being, and DEI create the foundation of our campus.

Ashonna Tubbs is the Program Director of the Teaching Residency and an Assistant Professor of Practice at the Georgia Campus of Relay Graduate School of Education. She earned her MSEd in School Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania and is committed to expanding equitable opportunities for students by supporting and equipping teachers to foster in all children the sense of agency, academic acumen, and self-awareness necessary to lead a choice-filled life.

Overview

In Georgia, Relay is authorized under the nonpublic Postsecondary Educational Institutions Act of 1990 by the State of Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission (GNPEC) to offer Master of Arts in Teaching programs, an Advanced Certificate in Special Education, and a non-degree, certification-only program.

Traditional Teacher Licensure Pathway

Relay students in Georgia are enrolled at the Atlanta campus in an online, Colorado-based educator preparation program, and students complete qualifying clinical experiences in Georgia.

Relay is authorized as a state-approved educator preparation provider (EPP) offering traditional preparation programs in its home state of New York by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). The Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) recognizes Relay’s authorization and approval by NYSED and will accept out-of-state program completers for certification in Georgia. 

Relay students located in Georgia must successfully complete the Colorado-based educator preparation program coursework (4 terms), all program completion requirements, and meet all Georgia testing and licensure requirements to be eligible to apply for a Georgia teaching certificate as an out-of-state program completer.
