College Student Perspectives

Relay college students range from sophomores to seniors. They attend a wide variety of schools, from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to Ivy League institutions. They are extremely diverse — more than 60% identify as black or Latino. Hear perspectives from students who have participated in Relay Tutor Corps and Relay Summer Experience.

“I was tutoring a student in math and she told me that she could not do better than a 78.  After working together, she received a score of well over 80. She was so happy and even wanted to continue trying to reach a higher score.”

— Victoria Nguyen, Relay Tutor Corps ‘16

“The most useful aspect of The Relay Tutor Corps was spending so much time role-playing and physically practicing teaching/tutoring techniques with other mentors during training sessions.”

 — David Daniels, Relay Tutor Corps ‘16

“The program taught me that teaching is one of the most rewarding careers in the world.”

— Brandon Mercadel, Relay Summer Experience ‘16

“I spent almost all my free time this summer in a culture created by intelligent, innovative young people, and for that I am grateful and changed.”

— Madeline Jones, Relay Summer Experience ‘16

The best part of the program was getting to know my students and watching them grow and improve throughout the semester.
